Margao MUNICIPAL GARBAGE UPDATE!!
Margao MUNICIPAL GARBAGE UPDATE!!
In the absence of the basic requirements like gloves, masks and gum boots, the workers of Margao Municipal Council #goa #India are carrying out the segregation of your waste.
We appeal to all to please spare a thought for these fellow humans and segregate your own waste and hand over to the workers.
Indeed a real shame on this Council that , after collecting garbage tax in advance, they can't spend on the welfare of its workers.
They leave no opportunity to misuse taxpayers money on pleasure jaunts, a/c dustbin rooms, luxury vehicles and so many other frauds, but they fail to even have a sympathetic thought towards these workers. They have not even spared them by cheating these workers of their provident fund money by double deduction from their wages.
A BIG SHAME!!!!

A proposal of how to manage waste going forward and advice from all involved on next steps.
We hope that this advice and support is followed up on and things change. As we all know change is never so simple.
EVERYONE in this community can help
- Please make sure you SEGREGATE your waste at source before it is collected.
- Speak to your neighbours and make sure they are doing the same
- If you have any problems with your waste being collected, contact municipality, orl follow up with someone you know.
- Know someone involved in the government? Ask them what they are doing about waste management. WRITE A LETTER to the head of your ward/ the Chief Officer or anyone however remotely connected, demanding that they take concrete and proactive steps to address the problem. Ask them what steps are been taken
- BE IN THEIR FACE ABOUT IT!
- SPEAK TO EVERYONE about waste- how they manage it, what problems they have, how it can be better. Keep the conversation alive. Its important to stop people ignoring that it is there
- REDUCE your impact and try and cut out (or at least cut down as much as possible) single use plastic
- SPEAK to whichever shop or restaurant you are in about how they can reduce waste. and why
- CARRY YOUR OWN BOTTLE. Push restaurants to have refill points.
This global crisis we face need EVERYONE to be active, aware and engaged in facing it and finding solutions.
As the last 40 years have shown we absolutely cannot rely on those we assume to be responsible or to have the power to do it for us.
Enough of shifting blame and waiting for someone to magically fix the mess we have all been culpable of creating.
Waste management is the tip of a colossal ecological and existential iceberg but by all means a crucial starting point and certainly easily achievable.
At the very least we can cut out the pollution to our water and soil from dumping, cancer and other related diseases from burning trash, and give a bit of dignity back to the insanely beautiful and diverse nature and wildlife that we are lucky enough to live in.
At the very best we can use this as a tipping point for changing attitudes towards waste and consumption and becoming more aware and responsible in how our daily actions affect the world around us, and make south goa shining example of how we humans can change habits of exploitation and decimation to nurture and protect, revive and reinvigorate, live sustainably and in wonder of the natural world around and within us.
So start with picking up litter someone dumped outside, and chatting to your neighbour about it
